If You Throw A Party For Your Child, Do You Feel Compelled To Give All The Guests Gifts?

Goody baggies, maybe, but out right gifts to say “Thanks for coming”? Seriously, you fork out a small fortune just throwing the party, the cake, the goodies, the games, possibly even a rental place and then some people want to toss on a personal present on top of things to “thank” the kids for eating your food and accepting your entertainment? Wtf, the day is supposed to be for the birthday child, not for the rest of the lot who pop in, right?

Party favors are nice. I always give them out at my daughter’s parties. And while I assume she will get them at every party she goes to, I never exactly “expect” them.
For gifts like I think you are talking about … No. I did pick some specialized gifts for her first birthday because I wanted to make sure all the little kids had something age-appropriate they could enjoy playing with while Cheyenne opened her stuff. But I’m talking maybe $1.50 per kid for a bottle of bubbles (that the parent can blow) and a toy car. Now that she’s 7 and I am pretty sure all of her friends will be about the same age – I just plan on grabbing a case of bubbles and something to go along with the theme of her party. (Like water guns if we go to the lake so the kids can squirt each other.)

i don’t give gifts to EVERYONE. heck these people are eating free food and having free entertainment. i always give the kids goody bags but i don’t do seperate gifts for the adults.

A neighbor and I were discussing this last weekend, both our daughters have birthdays this summer and we were talking about our parties. I have a ton of plans for us over the summer, so I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a birthday party.
We got to the subject of goody bags and she mentioned she got 10 items for each child’s goody bag. I didn’t feel the need to put together extravagant bags for the kids attending my daughter’s birthday.

I give the invited children a bag containing slice of birthday cake, small packet of sweets, lollipop, balloon and maybe a small inexpensive toy or gift. i.e colouring pad or pencils, pens or bracelets for girls, cars for boys.

I agree with you. You shell out all the money then other people expect some kinda gift from you for them coming. I just say thank you for coming and something along the lines of i’m sure my son/daughter will enjoy playing with the toy you go him/her

Sometimes i just give the little kids just a few trinkets from the dollar store in a bag. Nothing huge, and nothing for the adults.

You are not obligated to give favors or gifts.
A small goody bag or inexpensive trinket as a momento is a nice gesture.
An outright gift is not required.

    oh yes
party favors are usually given out to guests who come.
It makes it more enjoyable for the guests as well as your child.
BTW it’s my birthday today. I turned 25.

Our goody bags have candy and noise makers in them. They’re for use while at the party, not once they go home.
