How Do You Think Public Places Should Address The Holidays?

Seattle airport chose to take down its Christmas trees rather than put up a mennorah or face a lawsuit. Can you suggest a way that we could honor all cultures/religions and offend none? Or do you think all holidays should be publically ignored?

Christmas is a national holiday. There are no schools, banks, Post Offices, etc. open. So feel free to celebrate Christmas. Yes, I am Pagan, but Christmas is fun! We would never dream of letting our kids miss out on the excitement and joy of Christmas.
It’s kind of disturbing that the airport would take down the tree other than put up a mennorah. But I think it’s even more disturbing that a court would even consider telling them they have to. We live in a DEMOCRACY (Ok it’s a Republic, but work with me.) We have RIGHTS and FREEDOMS. Everyone has the right to do what they like, as long as it doesn’t break a law. Everyone else has the right to be offended if they like, but it won’t affect me.

    Good question.
I say, address the holidays with as much inclusion and diversity as the local population will allow. For example, a town with very few Jews might not have a good reason to put up a menorah, but in New York City, there are many places where one could put up a Christmas tree, a Hannukah menorah, a Kwanzaa candleabra and then some!

    Happy Holidays
Seems the majority of ppl celebrate something around this time of year so wishing them happiness in whatever holiday they like seems to be the safe way.
However, why is it that this country bends over for others. I personally celebrate Christmas. I’m not religious but I like the colors. Recently a pre-school chose not to participate in halloween because their were a couple boys in the class that were of another culture. It aroused this ? in my mind. If I took my child to another country, would I want that country to shun their own holidays just because we were there? No, I would want an invitation to celebrate in their happiness. To do so I think shows no commitment or love to whatever your religion is. Where have all the spines gone?

they should try to include everyone’s holiday that is going on during this time.
it doesn’t make much since to take the Christmas tree when they were only asked to also put up a menorah you can pick up one for like 20-30 bucks.

Someone will ALWAYS be offended. If we stop putting up anything having to do with the holidays…..then a lot of people will be offended by that and vice-versa. We can’t all win.

Its the people who are the problem. If someone says Happy Kwaanza to me, or Happy Hannukuh, or Merry Christmas, I feel happy. How can I not? People, stop concerning yourself with what other people do or say, and be glad that joy is in the air.
Merry Christmas to all ! Thats what my parents said to me, thats what I say.

We are in a Christian country. It was founded and settled by Christians, and 80% of people here are Christian.
People who choose to live here should realize that! Let us celebrate Christmas! I don’t go to Mexico and complain about all the Catholic icons, nor do I got to the Middle East and complain about the burkhas and mid-day prayers.
This is clearly a case of majority rules, and I hate how everything’s been watered down into “holidays.”
